u’ Joy
The frenzy, the excitement, the joy of the return to life: Easter in Scicli is that of the Uomu Vivu o u’ Gioia, or the risen Christ, carried in procession almost at a dance pace, amidst unpredictable stops and turns. A tradition (listed among Unesco’s Intangible Heritage) that continues to fascinate for its uniqueness, most recently even singer Vinicio Capossela who dedicated the song “Uomo vivo (Inno alla gioia)” to it.
