Summer in the Theater

Kicking off“InTeatroAperto,” the theater festival promoted by Garibaldi Theater now in its third year

A summer of culture, music and even lightness: Garibaldi Theater Foundation is confirmed as a reference point for cultural offerings in the Hyblean territory. Fifteen events are scheduled, from July to September, for “InTeatroAperto,” the summer theater show (now in its third edition) at Teatro Garibaldi, organized in collaboration with Catania’s Teatro Massimo Bellini, under the patronage of the Municipality of Modica and the Sicily Region’s Department of Tourism, Sports and Entertainment.

Not only prose, but also symphonic, light, opera music-there is something for everyone this summer. The festival kicks off on Friday, July 15, with the comedy “Non ti pago” by E. De Filippo, (directed by Saro Spadola, Controscena Theater Company) at theSan Giuseppe U Timpuni Amphitheater. It is followed, on Saturday, July 16, by an appointment at the cloister of Palazzo San Domenico with  thestring orchestra of the Teatro Massimo Bellini of Catania for “The Four Seasons,” a concert intended as a double tribute: to Antonio Vivaldi, of course (“The Four Seasons,” with Marco Serino as conductor and violin soloist and Luca Ambrosio harpsichord) and to the great Giuseppe Torelli (“Concerto in D Major for Trumpet, Strings and basso continuo,” conducted by Davide Galaverna with Mario Fedro Musumarra on trumpet).

Music also on Sunday 17 with The Harmonics and Daniele Catrame and their: “Concert” at the cloister of San Domenico Palace. Then, on Friday, July 22, another play, hosted by St. Joseph U Timpuni Amphitheater: “The Inheritance of Canon Uncle” by Antonio Russo Giusti (directed by Nele Pluchino, Cgs Theater Company).

What about Sunday? Music! Day July 24 is the turn of Serena Agosta with “Sciara. The Fire Within” at the cloister of Palazzo San Domenico. Also on stage at the San Giuseppe U Timpuni amphitheater is the Liberty company  with the comedy “Amara cu mori” by Turi Seminara scheduled for Friday, July 29. Finally, on Sunday, July 31, the exotic and melancholic notes of “Gusta Cuba” at the cloister of Palazzo San Domenico. TheGaribaldi Theater Foundation Symphony Orchestra (conductor Salvatore Percacciolo) and Salvatore Quaranta (first violin soloist of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra) will be the stars of the “Grand Concert of Summer,” Saturday 6 in the cloister of Palazzo San Domenico. Scheduled instead for Sunday, Aug. 7, is the prestigious “International Masterclass in Orchestral Training,” featuring theInternational Wind Orchestra, conducted by Mirko Caruso, and piccolo soloist Francesco Guggiola of the Orchestra of the Teatro della Scala in Milan.

The highlight of the season is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 11: Roberto Vecchioni and his historic band in concert for the Hyblean leg of “L’infinito tour” at the auditorium in Marina di Modica.

This is followed by the comedy “Let’s Laugh About It” by the Hobby Actors theater company, with Nele Pluchino directed by Riccardo Tona, on Friday, Aug. 12 at the cloister of the San Domenico Palace. On Saturday, Aug. 20, it is the turn of opera: soprano Daniela Schillaci and tenor Angelo Villari, with piano accompaniment by Gaetano Costa, will sing the most famous arias and duets at the cloister of Palazzo San Domenico for a journey into the masterpieces of the past. There is also room for popular music with the long-awaited concert “Muorikamuri” (Friday 26 will be held at the auditorium in Marina di Modica), which sees the return to the scenes, after 20 years of absence, of the historic Modican band  Mas-Nada, which will be on stage together with Nello Analfino and Antonio Modica. “Minchia Signor Tenente,” the play by Antonio Grosso (directed by Piero Pisana, Sipario Blu theater company) scheduled for Saturday 27 at the St. Joseph U Timpuni Amphitheater will wring the last laughs of August. The last event of the season “13, 17 and…gn’iattu niuru” (directed by Giovanna Drago, I caturru theater company) is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 2, at the St. Joseph U Timpuni Amphitheater.
